Ход мероприятия:
+ Good morning, dear friends! Welcome to our talk-show. Today we are going to speak about sport.
+ Sport is one of those things that make our lives really worth living. In one way or another, everyone is involved in sports, whether they play or watch it.
+ Today we are glad to welcome the students from school number 9 (applaud). They claim that sport is a very important thing nowadays and more than that it is very popular with teens and grown-ups. They argue that doing sports is cool!
+ So, the theme of our show is ‘Doing sports is cool, isn’t it?’
+ And our first question. Why do you think sport is so important for people?
- To begin with, sport allows us to keep fit and to stay healthy. Among the benefits of regular exercise there are a healthy heart and weight control.
- In addition, sport helps us to overcome difficulties and gives a chance to acquire self-confidence, what is more, sport makes us more organized and better disciplined in our daily activities.
+ You mean sport is very popular with teens. Is it really so?
- Yes, young people all over the world are keen on doing sports.
+ And what about Yelabuga?
- Oh, Yelabuga is no exception! A lot of teens are crazy about sports. (Slide-show)
- I agree with you, though some years ago our town was famous for only its ancient history and monuments. Nowadays it has begun one of the sportiest places in our republic. There are a great number of stadiums, sport grounds, swimming pools, an athletic complex, a multi-purpose sports hall and the ice arena with Seating for 1,500 spectators. This is a unique place for the training of sports teams such as Figure skating school “Hkrustalnyi Konyok” as well as hockey teams “Lesniye Pchyoly” and “SerebryanyeVolki”.
- (presentation - Sport) Sport is a very important part of Yelabuga life, especially for younger generation and recently we’ve conducted a sports survey in our school. We interviewed 100 students to find out their attitude to sport. We asked interviewees 5 questions. You can see them on the screen.
Sports Questionnaire
- These are the results of our sports survey.
Thus, 85% of the respondents like sport, 15% answered negatively.
65% of the respondents play sport in their free time, 20% don’t play sport in their free time.
27% of the respondents watch sport on TV, 35% answered negatively.
59% of the respondents go to sport events, 38 gave the negative answer.
And the last question about favourite sport. Have a look! Practically all kinds of sports are popular among our students, but Swimming, Hockey, Basketball and Football enjoy the greatest popularity.
- Students of our school enter a lot of competitions and become the winners not only in our republic but in Russian and international championships
+ Now we’d like some of our sportsmen tell us a few words about their favourite kinds of sport.
(Presentation –swimming)
+ Let’s invite Aidar Yarullin and Roman Vlasov. They are swimmers. So, why do you swim?
- Well, when I was a child I just enjoyed it and swam for pleasure. Now I’m sure that swimming is a wonderful sport. It’s a lifetime sport that benefits the body and the whole person!
- I couldn’t agree more! It’s a great thing to keep fit! It works practically all of the muscles in the body. It benefits to your heart and lungs.
- More than that a lot of people find an in-direct benefit from swimming. They develop life skills such as sportsmanship, time-management, self-discipline, goal-setting, and an increased sense of self-worth. Swimmers seem to do better in school, than non-swimmers.
+ Can you share any tips for staying in shape?
- You know, there’re a lot of people that want to be in shape and have an athletic body. But they don’t understand that it doesn’t come easy. They have to work for it; you honestly have to. It’s not like, “Oh, I’ll work out today and next week I’ll work out once again.” You have to do it on a daily routine.
+ That's the point
- So you can swim for fitness, recreation, competition, or just for fun.
- You are absolutely right! If you do not know how to swim, take swimming lessons and enjoy fitness swimming.
+ Thank you very much. Best wishes!
+ Our next participant is Amir Sibgatullin who wanted to tell us a few words about his favourite sport. He knows everything about hockey. Unfortunately, Amir has gone to pre-season training but we have managed to get in touch with him through Skype just now.
(Video)
+ Amir, hello! Are you OK? Can you answer some questions?
- Sure! Come on.
+ People all over the world play hockey now but what country is the birthplace of this game?
- Well, Canada is believed to be the birthplace of modern ice hockey though games played with curved sticks and a ball can be found in the histories of many countries: Egypt, Ancient Greece and some others. You’ll be surprised, but I’ve heard that it was born in England. People say that some prisoners used to play with sticks and cans.
+ How interesting! And now it’s an Olympic sport and the most popular team sport played on ice. By the way, what does NHL mean?
- The National Hockey League which was founded in 1917.
+ Some people say hockey looks easy to play. Is it really so?
- Certainly not. Players often skate 48 km an hour. They get tired very quickly.
+ Is it a dangerous game?
- Oh, yeah. Today players wear special clothes to protect their bodies. Goalkeepers wear special masks to protect their faces. In the past, there were many players without their front teeth! You see, this sport is developing. Have you heard about street hockey?
+ Street hockey?! What is it?
- Street hockey is fast and fun and you don’t need any ice!
+ And no ice skates?!
- Sure! You wear tennis shoes, not ice skates. You can play it all year and in lots of places: car parks, basketball courts, empty streets. Professional ice hockey teams sponsor street hockey for young people. So the teens get great equipment and uniforms. And the ice hockey teams get future fans. Everybody wins!
+ Great! Thank you, Amir! Bye!
+ See you!
+ And now we’d like to speak about such sports as extreme because these sports have become very popular in the last few years and you often hear people talking about their experiences. They say it is the best thing in the world and real adrenaline rush.
- Please look at the screen. There’s a presentation about these sports. (Presentation – Extreme Sports) Now I’d like to know what our guests think about extreme sports.
- These sports are considered rather dangerous and it is quite difficult to understand why people put their lives at risk.
- In my opinion, young people today are doing far too many extreme sports like bungee jumping, rock climbing. They are far too risky. More than that, they don’t care if they get hurt – they just go back and do it again and again. They don’t care about their parents who often feel stressed because of the possibility of injury.
+ I see. Thank you for your opinion.
- Personally I don’t understand why they do it. Maybe it’s like a drug, they do it for the first time just because some of their friends said it was great and then end up being addicted to it. The more they do them the more they want to do it again. Or probably they start doing it because they want to show how strong and courageous they are and then become addicted.
+ Are there any other opinions? Is there anybody who likes extreme sports?
- As for me, I can understand people who are addicted to risky sports. First of all, they try extreme sports for the thrill and excitement. They say it’s a feeling nothing can be compared to, in a short period of time you experienced so much. They just want a new experience and new emotions to conquer.
+ I remember the day when young people were happy to ride a normal bicycle or just go for a walk!
+ I see. It’s so different now! Do you have anything to add?
- I am not a risk taker but I respect people who go to extremes. Risky sports enable people to confront fears and to satisfy their curiosity. These sports offer the opportunity to carve your own path and find where your limits lie.
+ Don’t you think that extreme sports are less popular in our country than abroad?
+ Yes, I agree here. By the way, some time ago our friend Diana who’s from London visited our school. As it turned out she is very sporty. We asked her some questions. Let’s watch this interview.
(Video)
+ Hello, Diana! How are you?
- Hi, guys! I’m fine, thanks.
+ Diana, we know that recently you’ve taken up white-water rafting. It seems to be quite dangerous extreme sport. How did you find out about it?
- I played tennis since I was 10 and it was cool but once I thought that I should take up a new sport - a little bit different and more adventurous. So one day I saw the poster and decided to enroll. To tell the truth, this weekend I went white-water rafting for the first time.
+ So what was it like?
- It was brilliant! I should say that our instructor was really helpful and made us feel confident right from the start. First of all, we had a safety presentation and we were given our equipment – helmets, wet suits, life jackets and so on.
+ Did you fall in a lot?
- A couple of times at the start. At first we were just learning how to ride rapids. It was quite tough at the start.
+ How long was the trip for?
- Six hours in total which sounds like a long-time but at the end of the day I wanted more!
+ Can anyone enroll for this activity?
- Well, you have to be in good condition. They don’t accept people with heart problems (for obvious reasons). At the start I had to sign a form to say that I recognized the possible dangers involved.
+ Weren’t you scared?
- Only a little bit. It was so exciting – sometimes I wasn’t sure whether I was scared or really enjoying myself. I screamed so much. It was fantastic!
+ Great! Thanks for your interesting story.
+ It sounds like almost everyone can go extreme sports and it isn’t as dangerous as some people think. But we’ve got a piece of home video from Diana. Let’s watch it. (Video)
- What do you think about doing extreme sports?
- I don’t agree that everyone can go extreme sports. Have you heard about speed flying? It’s a new winter sport that involves a combination of paragliding and skiing skills. It was born in France but now is becoming popular in the rest of Europe.
+ Oh, we’ve got a short presentation about this sport. Look at the screen, please. (Presentation – Speed-Flying)
+ So you consider that extreme sport isn’t for everyone, don’t you?
- Exactly! The danger in Speed-Flying, as with any extreme sport, lies in the fact that it may feel safer than it really is. While you are flying a few feet above the ground, at high speed, the adrenaline rush is intense. Problems arise when inexperienced Speed-Flyers are unaware of the number of things that can go wrong at any time. There exists the possibility of serious injury or death. For this reason, we urge that only experienced athletes take part in this sport. It is not a sport suitable for everyone. If you are thinking about taking up Speed-Flying or any other extreme sport, it is recommended that you contact an experienced sportsman or sports organization/school/instructor in your area and that you don't attempt to learn these sports on your own.
+ It’s difficult to disagree here. Extreme sports are definitely dangerous sports. And we certainly must be responsible for our health and lives.
- If you ask me, I’d never try anything like that, I mean extreme sports. I’m addicted to safety. Personally, I get a lot of enjoyment out of ‘safer’ sports like basketball and tennis. They might not be so exciting, but they really keep fit. That’s the most important thing for me.
+ Yes, fully agree. What is more, nowadays if you want to be successful you should be active and fit. Do you agree?
- Yes, I do. And doing sports is the best way to keep fit. Sport makes our bodies stronger; it prevents us from getting too fat. It makes us more self-organized and it strengthens our characters.
- Wise people say that good health is a great blessing. Everyone should do all possible to stay healthy. The only possible way of preserving your health unhealthy lifestyle which includes keeping fit, balanced meals, and giving up unhealthy habits like smoking, drinking alcohol, and, of course, drugs.
+ I absolutely agree. "A sound mind is in a sound body".
- Dear friends! Today we’ve tried to do our best to convince you that being fit is great. There are over one thousand students in our school and almost half of them attend sport schools. Isn’t it amazing?! Do sport and be fit! Do sport and be healthy! Do sport and be happy!
+ And one more important thing about sport – it unites people of different classes and nationalities.
+ Right! But I think it will be the topic for our next discussion! (And) Our show is coming to the end.
+ And it’s time to say goodbye to our guests.
+ Oh no! Just now we invite our guests to the hall as the students of our school have prepared something to show.
+ Dear friends, welcome to our school!
